Selection of grinding wheels for roll grinding machines
The grinding wheels of roll grinding machines have a multifaceted impact on the grinding process, including machining accuracy, surface roughness and production efficiency. In order to obtain good grinding results, it is important to select the correct grinding wheel. Some of the main factors to consider when selecting a grinding wheel are as follows:
The physical properties of the workpiece material (strength, hardness, toughness, etc.);
The machining accuracy and surface roughness requirements of the workpiece.
The shape and size of the workpiece;
The amount of workpiece to be ground;
The grinding method and the performance of the grinding machine;
The type of coolant;
As the factors affecting the selection of grinding wheels are very complex, it is practically impossible to propose a specific method that is adapted to all kinds of processing conditions; therefore, in the actual production process, the specific situation should be analysed and a more suitable grinding wheel should be selected.
In the introduction to roughness, it has been emphasised that roll grinding only guarantees the roughness Ra value, which does not meet the requirements of the rolling process, and that the rolls must be ground with specific grinding wheels and according to the specified grinding process to ensure the needs of aluminium foil rolling.
Due to the high surface hardness of the rolls, the grinding time is relatively long, so the grinding wheels are consumed relatively quickly. In order to ensure continuous work, the grinding wheels have to have sufficient reserves. On the other hand, grinding wheels are influenced by the bonding agent and cannot be stored for too long, which varies with the grinding wheel bonding agent. Grinding wheels with a ceramic bond can be stored for two years, while those with a resin bond can be stored for one year.
Another issue that should be noted when choosing a grinding wheel is to ensure that the performance of the wheel is stable. Grinding wheels of the same national model (same abrasive, bond, organisation, hardness), with different manufacturers, have different grinding effects and special attention should be paid when replacing the grinding wheel supplier.
It should also be noted when selecting the grinding wheel grit size that the same grinding wheel grit model is used in Japan, Europe and the USA, but the average diameter standard of the grit size is not the same.
