At present, the mainstream electrolysis water hydrogen production technologies include alkaline water electrolysis (ALK), proton exchange membrane electrolysis (PEM), high-temperature solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC), and solid polymer anion exchange membrane electrolysis (AEM). The performance of the electrolyzer is directly related to the hydrogen production efficiency of the entire hydrogen production system. It also has a very important impact on energy consumption and safety. Therefore, the electrolyzer is the core of the water electrolysis process.
Equipment costs account for 14% of the cost of electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen. The electrolytic water hydrogen production system consists of an electrolytic cell and an auxiliary system. The electrolytic cell is the main place where the electrolysis reaction occurs. The auxiliary system includes modules such as power conversion, water circulation, gas separation, and gas purification. From the cost structure point of view, the electrolyzer accounts for about 50% of the total cost of the hydrogen production system, and the greater the hydrogen production volume of the equipment per unit time, the higher the proportion of the electrolyzer in the entire equipment manufacturing cost. Therefore, the cost of the electrolyzer will directly affect the product price of the hydrogen production system. The cost of the electrolyzer is the core of the production cost of the electrolytic water hydrogen production system.
