What is an electrolytic cell
Hydrogen production by electrolysis of water means that the DC power supply enters the electrolytic cell filled with the electrolyte solution, and the water produces an electrochemical reaction on the metal electrode, which can be decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen, and the whole process can complete zero emission.
In the overall production chain, the electrolyzer is the main medium of the facility. Usually the structure of the electrolytic cell can be divided into three parts, namely the pickling tank, the anode and the cathode.
When the DC power supply is used in the electrolytic cell, the anode and the aqueous solution have a redox reaction, and the cathode and the aqueous solution have a passivation reaction.
At this stage, in my country, electrolyzed water hydrogen production machines and equipment are mainly used in solar power generation, wind power generation and renewable resources. Among them, the alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production project has low investment and has fully completed the industrial development. It is not only the best choice for large-scale green hydrogen production, but also the most mature and stable technical and commercial method.
As the most mature and stable electrolysis technology, alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) is dominant, especially in some engineering projects. The diaphragm of alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production electrolyzer is mainly composed of high polymer raw materials, which has the effect of separating out the gas. The cathode and anode are mainly composed of metal material aluminum alloy, such as Ni-Mo aluminum alloy.
The mechanism is that when the cathode moisture is converted into H+ and OH-, H+ obtains electronic devices to form hydrogen atoms, which further generates hydrogen molecules (H2); OH- crosses the electrostatic force between the cathode and anode according to the porous structure of the diaphragm, reaches the anode, and loses the anode. The electronics in it create moisture and oxygen atoms.
The main equipment of an alkaline electrolysis plant is an electrolytic cell. Before the electrolytic cell, a transformer and a rectifier cabinet should be configured to convert the high-voltage alternating current into the DC power supply used in the electrolytic cell for the electrolysis of the water in the electrolytic cell.
